A standard solo mouthpiece is the Mirafone TU-23, but is normally used on F tuba. Don't feel awkward about playing the Vaughan Williams on a CC. I won two concerto competitions and played both concertos (Gregson and Vaughan Williams) on a Mirafone 186. I also did all my college auditions on this horn, then finally got my F in June a week before I went to an orchestra festival to play "Bydlo". I know a few graduate students who went through half their undergrad with nothing to play on but a BBb or a CC. If you really try hard and really have a passion for the music, your horn should not impede you.
