Man!, I love this piece. I had it for a District try-out piece in 1972! It still rocks!! I'm still trying to extract perfection from it. Most of Nelhybel's music is kinda stompy and humerous. Play it full and crisp and try to make the judges grin! Loosen-up on the 2nd movement.....and think avant-garde!
I don't know of a recording, but you can get a flavor for his music by listening to "Trittico" performed by the Dallas Wind Symph' on Reference Recordings. He also wrote some really extraterestrial electronic music in the '60's. Great 20th century composer.
