I agree with Rick. Miriphone make great horns if you can only have one tuba. However, I play a piggy as my only horn and love it. The high range is excellent, I play EVERYTHING on it, and it has a nice clear, singing sound up there. The low range is as open and centered as any tuba on the market. I also play in a professional symphony, and only a couple of times in 6 years have I wished for something bigger. Used ones can be found for $3000, but new ones are only $4000, or you can opt for one with a 5th valve, but the Cerveny 5th valve set-up from the factory leaves a lot to be desired. My only gripe with it is the light bell, which can be fixed using a number of different cures.
