I keep my horn in a gig bag, and I leave it lying flat or sitting upright (not on the bell). My repairman at school soldered the first crack after it first appeared, but it split open again, and seems to get wider. I do sit it on the bell occasionally, but I wasn't sure if that would be enough to cause such problems. When I sit it on the bell, it's between practicing, and not for extreme amounts of time. It puzzles me as to how the cracks could just appear without some sort of damage to the horn. It has never been through any sort of trauma that should have caused this to happen. Unless someone did something to my horn I don't know about, which is scarier yet!
