I just recently went through the process of buying a larger piston F. It came down to the MW 45slp and the Yamaha 822. I had the chance to play test 4 45slp's side-by-side and then found the 822 worked best for me. But it was a VERY difficult decision to make! Those Meinl's are really nice. As James had previously posted, the Hirsbrunner was the next closest horn (for me). I'm very partial to Yamaha F's (flame retardant suit on) and the 822 is my favorite one. But the "most bang for the buck" German F is the Meinl Weston 45slp....hands down.

Check with David Fedderly at Baltimore Brass about these horns....he has a couple in stock and they were the best 45slp's I've played yet.....and I've played them in the US and Switzerland.

Also check the archives for a very good comparison of F tubas. There are several postings about this horn.

Good luck!

Josh
