I once sowed a protector on an Altieri bag down the non-bell side of the outer branches--the part of the case that is aimed at the ground when you carry it. I used Cordura nylon and two layers of half-inch closed-cell foam, about four inches wide and the length of the offside outer branches. The nylon is stiff--use an upholstery needle and a thimble, as well as nylon upholstery thread.
I did this because I kept denting a soft Cerveny stencil seemingly every time I set the horn down. Later, I traded this bag for a Reunion Blues, and learned the pleasure of a side-opening bag. I've never felt that bag needed more protection in the same place.
As to thich bag you need for a 2165, I might be able to answer that better if I could make sounds at all on such a horn!
