There was a thread on the TubaEuph mail list, where a well-known contributor mis-named Frieder to Dieter. Given the European residence of that contributor, this was considered authoritative by another frequent contributor. Chuck G stopped the trend by making a joke about it, and he carried that joke with the same two contributors on Tubenet.
Frieder himself joined the fray, and enjoyed the humor. He asked us not to confuse us with his cousin, Dieter.
I think the proper term is "meta-thread" where elements of one thread (or list) are alluded to on another. It's fun for those in the know, and utterly confusing for everyone else.
