I have a similar story. My PT-10 developed a buzz on certain notes, which I determined was coming from region around the ferrule between the bow and bell. A friend and I unsoldered the bell, cleaned it up and tinned it prior to resoldering. Now that I have a very good solder joint, not only did it get rid of the buzz, but the horn responds better than it ever did. I feel that a good solder joint enables the bow and bell to act more as one piece, which is not possible when there is just a thin strip of solder on the joints.
