Everclear works, but is not available in all areas. Back in my colleges days, we poured 100 proof vodka on the valves to keep them from freezing. Never use rum...it can be corrosive. A pint of cheap Popov Blue worked for an entire November of marching practices. And no, it will not make you drunk, you get no more vapors or fluid than one does form regular valve oil. Make sure you clean the valves regularly!
