In addition to Jay's comments, the Universit of Michigan has an
incredible "Honors Band" program with some of the finest high
school students in the state. In Ann Arbor you have two fine
high schools to choose from as well as the faculty and their
talented students at UoM, the Univesity Musical Society which
brings in the finest orchestras, quintets, soloists, etc. from
around the world (e.g. CSO, London Symphony, Moscow, Leipzig
Gewandhaus, San Francisco, Israeli Symphony, Detroit Symphony,
Academy-of-St-Martins, et. al)and tons of local talent. I have
always considered Ann Arbor to be the biggest small town in
America. Then there is Detroit! Along with the incredible
Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Chamber Winds (lots of
bassoon going on there) and the Michigan Opera Theater, the city
of Detroit has the most concert/theater seats 2nd only to New York
City (my wife is the head of research for the Greater Detroit Chamber
of Commerce so I pick up these little tidbits). Detroit is 30 - 40
minutes from Ann Arbor via I-94. Also, the airport is 20 minutes from
Ann Arbor with direct flights to most of the world. All in all, Ann
Arbor is an excellent choice for living and raising a family.

Good luck,

Michael
