I can't speak for the 993, but I know that they changed the 994 quite noticeably (the wrap is very different) and it makes a huge difference to the playing. The low range is extremely free blowing and you can barely tell when the compensators kick in. I very rarely play front action, so the 993 is not really an instrument for me, but if they have redisigned it and if it is anything like as good as the 994 is now then it should be a beautiful horn (but if it is anything like the 994 used to be then you can probably do better for the money).
