FYI, trombone players play the G one octave above the stave (analogous to this note) in 2nd position, equivalent to 2nd valve, but it is quite flat, as it seems to be on the tuba as well. While they could play it in a more standard (not to bad intonation-wise) 4th position (1+2 or 3), the not doesn't come through as clearly. So maybe this will fix that response problem. Good luck.
