Why not? The effect will be minimal and you will be protecting the brass from pitting. Wear down the finish, not the horn. Have your local guy relacquer the horn with air dry. That is what Mr. Lawson uses on his horns. As the need arises to do a repair, the area can then be spot lacquered with a spray can of air dry lacquer. And your hands won't smell like brass when you are done practicing. I can't wait to get my little York finished because of the raw brass smell. I haven't decided on lacquer or silver yet.
