Here's a picture of a modified Keefer (originally by Chuck Jackson). Also here's some background provide by Adam Peck.

The Diston family were musicians and instrument makers in England in the mid 1800s. They moved to Philadelphia somtime around 1880. They held many important musical instrument patents. In about 1886 they relocated their factory to Williamsport. In about 1898 a stockholder Brua Keefer aquired the company which became the Keefer band instrument co. They manufactured School quality instruments until the factory burned down in 1964. I have owned about 5 keefer EEb tubas and they are nice horns. its very difficult to find one in great condition.
