The first valve slide on Mirafones are placed in just about the best place possible for pulling. You can generally use alternates rather than pull slides, but the slide pulling is here to stay. Now, I have heard of devices installed for manipulating the main slide rather than individual slides, which would make sense if there were difficult problems or the slides were in inaccessable. However, I would first check your horn with a tuner to see how managable it is. Whether you add hardware, push and pull, go for alternate fingerings, or all the above, it sounds like your are trying to play in tune, and this will take work in one form or another.
