I think that one of the reasons for this is that by the time we're able to think about playing a Yorkbrunner well, our ears have become much more adept at detecting intonation problems. That's not to say that they don't exist, but the longer I play (years) the more I notice intonation problems on a horn that I hadn't noticed before. Of course schools are full of school-board-budget specials that need an inch or so whacked off of the main tuning slide, but the higher quality horns' out-of-tune notes are much closer to the mark than the cheapos' out-of-tune notes.
