I think some folks steer clear because they imagine these horns to be "student line" instruments. Many of them are, to be sure. That is where the volume of sales will be for a manufacturer. I would dare to say that there are very few CC tubas intended for the public school market, so the maybe this is why they seem to be made to higher standard (GENERALLY but not EXCLUSIVELY) ----> There are top end and low end products in every line. If you think BBb is your route, then follow it, But as the others have said, find the best horn you can. That is far more important than which note it is based on, but don't be afraid of the fingering changes if you do end up in CC land. The patterns are still the same!
