Try turning your question around: What's right with CC tubas? Have a look at my previous posting. I always found it much easier to play a CC in a band (of any type), than to play even a good BBb in an orchestra. In fact, I've had more success playing a big Eb in an orchestra, than using my old M.W. BBb. That doesn't make BBb tubas "wrong". There are a few people who make a BBb tuba work in most any situation - but they seem to be the exception, not the rule. CC tubas are also more responsive and agile for quintet use, usually. There's always a reason why anything commands such a high selling price, nicht wahr? I must admit, I've never played a St. Pete' BBb. Perhaps St. Pete' players would tell you that there is, indeed, nothing "wrong" with BBb tubas.
