It's not so much an issue of size, even though The S H II is a decent sized MP. It's more an issue of how it evolved-- The H II from the original Schilke Helleberg and the Geib H II and the C4 H II as variants of the H II. It allows you to fit your MP to a different horn or ensemble or venue and keep the contact to your chops consistent. You could have them make a hybrid of just about anything, I suppose, but having the same rim makes for a more reliable transition.
