Did anyone else see the TNT 'Christmas Carol' with Patrick Stewart as Scrooge? There is a scene where a small chamber group is playing, and one of the players is playing a serpent. Now, here I am smart enough to know that it was a serpent, but not smart enough to know: is the sound in the scene consistent with the sound of a serpent? I've never heard one. Also, what key were they generally in? I know I have heard that they came in a wide variety of sizes.

A brief non-tuba comment: it is an excellent production. I'm a big fan of the multitude of versions of this story, and this has shot right up near the top in my book.

Thanks, all you tuba guys & dolls, and let me be the very first to wish all of you a Merry Christmas. "God bless us, every one!"
