Tyler,
I'm a police officer in WI. One word of advice. Don't just think that because you filed a police report, they are going to get back to you. If you don't hear from them in a few weeks, call them back and ask about the status of the case. A lot of times, people are arrested, things seized, placed into evidence and left there for YEARS. We have everything from soup to nuts in our evidence room. Biggest thing??? Make very sure your serial number is in the police report. That's how the clerical people enter your item into the system. I know there's not many stolen tubas reported, but if your serial number shows up in the system, chances are much better your stolen tuba report will get flagged and you will be contacted. Hope this was of assistance. Also, John's idea of Ebay was an excellent one.
