The Rotax things are just so big around (diameter-wise) that this allows them to have tube shapes almost resembling slide crooks running through them rather than just cutouts.

Since I doubt that Willson trombones would stand up in the U.S. market next to, say, Bach withOUT any F-attachments at all (comparing "straight" models to "straight" models), it would be almost impossible to comment on whether Rotax valves improve the response of F-attachment notes on Willson trombones. (ie: To really find this out, you would have to put a "regular-rotor-and-Thayer-valve-interchangable" Rotax valve on an instrument - preferably a brand of instrument that was "acceptable" to the tester - and compare the Rotax back-to-back to a standard rotor and to Thayer valve.)
