My valves are vented and they don't leak. The way it was explained to me is that the only time air escapes through the hole is when the valve is not depressed, or when the tubing connected to that valve is not being used. When the valve is depressed the air is redirected into the tubing, thus avoiding the hole. In the case of my horn, the holes are very small, like pin holes. They are not very big, so they don't effect the amount of air it takes to play the horn much, if all.
