Nate Griffith showed a prototype 4/4 CC piston valve (4+1) tuba which is slated to be marketed by Tuba Exchange for around $6200. It seemed very pleasant to play--good presence of fundamental, good intonation, relatively free-blowing. Did anyone else form any impressions of this horn?

I was very disappointed by the Silent Brass for Tuba. Even with the volume cranked all the way up, the tuba sounded as if it were two rooms away. Yamaha needs to "beef up" the sound. The mute assembly itself adds a lot of weight to the top of the horn, but that is to be expected.

Was there anything else new at Midwest of interest to tuba and euph players?
