Just got back from Chicago where I got to attend the tribute to Arnold Jacobs.. It was held in Symphony Center on Thursday afternoon. The hall was almost completely filled with people celebrating the life of an incredible man. Several collegues spoke including Adolph Herseth, Harvey Phillips, and Gene Pokorny. A slide show depicting his life and career was accompanied by a recording of Mr. Jacobs performing the Romanza from the Vaughan Williams. To conclude, Daniel Barenboim conducted Gabrieli's Canzon per sonare No. 2 with over thirty brass players on stage. A five minute ovation followed. This seems such a cursory way of recounting the afternoon, but so many emotions were inside that hall and words are insufficient. There is a display in the rotunda at Syphony Center that I encourage everyone who has a chance to visit. Definitely an afternoon I will not soon forget.
