I definitely agree with Greg, a "bigish" F or Eflat tuba is a very versatile
instrument. Look at the UK for example, basically every player uses an Eflat
instrument, whether it be for solo work, or in a quintet or orchestra. Another
example is Germany, where the F tuba is considered the standard instrument,
even for orchestral playing. Bear in mind that Mahler and Bruckner wrote
a number of their symphonies for a 'bass tuba' (F tuba), not a kontrabass
tuba (CC or BBflat). All German players will use an F tuba for these parts.

What I am trying to say is, look over the borders of your country, and see
what the rest of the world is doing...they could be doing it better than us!!!
