I'm an assistant prof in a small music program, and hear auditions every spring. Three things I'd advise:

1)If you're given sight-reading, check it very carefully for key, meter, and tempo changes before you do anything else (I could tell some stories!) and take it at a tempo that allows you to play cleanly and accurately.

2) Be on the scene early with paperwork filled out. Like it or not, this is the first indication we see of whether you have your act together or not. Also, you might be asked to audition early if someone else doesn't show; if you're ready to go ahead of time it's a point in your favor.

3) Don't hesitate to call people back if you realize you have more questions before an audition. Nobody wants to be considered a pest, but I think auditionees probably err on the side of caution and don't call when they should have. It doesn't hurt for people to be reminded of your name another time!

Good luck!
