Dont fret... The tuba is seen as geeky BECAUSE PEOPLE PLAY IT THAT WAY!! Here we have an infantile instrument (historically speaking) and our mainstream music consists of stuff that is mostly historic reproduction!! (quite an irony to me...) Also, it is seen as a goofy, comedic, flatulent instrument BECAUSE PEOPLE PLAY IT THAT WAY -- the tuba is always seen in a light of "schtick" or "look what he can do on that big thing" It often does us no good.
It is up to us to make it viable and acceptable -- MTV aint gonna do it for us.
Plus, dont sweat it if you dont see tubas all the time on MTV or whatever and they say they arent sexy, blah blah. What is hip on MTV only stays that way for a sheer manner of seconds and the masses forget it. The hipper something is, the more fleeting.
Just do what you do and dont sweat the cheezy stuff.
