Have you noticed the emergence of tubas in children's music and in "bumper tunes"
on popular T.V.shows.I think the tuba is in for a well-deserved uptick in popularity.
I played tuba in high school but later switched to trumpet and geetar to earn money
and woo chicks. My gig was to play electric rythm guitar and sing but when it was my
turn to solo,I would pick up a trumpet and play solo or fill.
But the tuba was my first, best instrument and I missed it.
Here in the southeast, every other beach bar has a single guitarist playing "beach
music"-songs by Jimmy Buffet and light oldies written with a smile. This has begun to
wear thin with audiences and the singers are being largely ignored.
A guitar-pickin'buddy of mine suggested a rythm guitar-tuba duo with me.I had a tuba
I bought in Siberia for ten bucks.Wow what a response from the audiences.Adding a tuba
line to standard bar room tunes gave the music a lot more punch. Also I get to do a lot
of solos.I like that. And my partner who has been playing alone for ten years now has a
soloist and some company on those long boozy evenings.
