This issue keeps coming up on here. I suspect what you're after is a list of any shortcomings the horn might possess. Since I've never seen an instrument that didn't have any, I think that's a fair question -- and a more instructive one, as there might be numerous shortcomings, but he might be selling it to pay the rent or to get his transmission rebuilt. But his reasons for deciding, today, that he'd rather have the money than the instrument are his own.
In other words, a full description of the instrument IS your business; his reasons for selling are not. If you ARE going to ask such a personal question, it should at least be done in private.
