I tried both when I was shopping for tubas at Woodwind/Brasswind about 1 1/2 years ago. I found the 186 to be very comfortable ergonomically and it played well, but it just didn't produce the deep rich sound that the 191 (5-valve, gold brass) did. I ended up buying the 191 because of its sound, and have adjusted to the minor ergonomic issues.
