If you want to hear advanced musicianship in high places where you should "not try this at home", listen to Sam Pilafian and Pat Sheridan. Don't let it discourage you. They got there by a lot of hard work. So can you if you really want to.

Whatever. Here's my (humble) opinion of a good answer to your original post: There are three registers - the high register, the low register, and the cash register. For an amateur on a BBb, I would define the cash register as F on the fourth leger line below the staff to c on the first leger line above the staff. If you see anything outside that range while you're in high school, you're already in music school and you are funnin' us with this post. In any case, your drive should be to learn to play MUSIC in the cash register. That's what will get you through any auditions you might take any time soon. While you're at it, expanding your range can't hurt, but don't fall into the trumpet trap and try to play screech tuba. It's not musical and you might hurt yourself.

Besides, "comparisons are odious".
