in a large symphonic band that I play in, I would often use my PT for most of the earlier rehearsals as it has very similar sound characteristics to the other player's Mirafones. BUT generally a coupla rehearsals before the gig I schlepp my big Holton in and use that for the concert. During earlier rehearsals this helps me to get the section technical stuff down with a minimum of struggle for "blend" (color, intonation, and the like) but bringing in the BAT allows for the big support that a large band and large (3 tuba) section benefit from.
