Suppose you've got an old $50 Conn Director, and your budget runs toward a can of spray paint and a roll of masking tape. Accepting that the results might be less-than-stellar up close, and recognizing that things have to be smooth before painting to look smooth after painting, will the paint adhere better to lacquer or bare brass? And is there any other advice anyone can offer other than "keep it away from the good horn"?
