I did a little research on this band. It's been in continuous operation for 56 years, even during two periods when the city had no team. It looks to me like a pretty much all-comers community band which, due to its affiliation with a football team, is able to provide the players' instruments. I'd expect they are mostly football fans, or at least people with strong community spirit, who are thrilled at being able to get into all the home games for nothing, and consider the music their way of supporting 'their' team. These aren't pros, they get a football ticket worth at least $25 every time they play, and they all know the score coming in.

Why in the hell should the musician's union care? Do they think you need a license to schlepp a Sousaphone around?

Sheesh.

Joe Baker, who wonders if Brent thinks the fans should be paid union scale, too.
