It was about 4 years ago that I got to hear the Airmen Of Note at a live performance. They were borrowing a bass bone player from the D.C. Concert Band, and he preached the same sermon. He was using a Conn double inline and a 58 or 59. He contributed to the group in the same manner you describe, and was a joy to listen to.
