That's funny that the Doug is too bright. Adam Frey switched from the Wick SM3 to a Doug setup when he started playing the 842 because he wanted a darker sound. I have a Houser copy of Art Lehman's 'M' mouthpiece, but I'll do most of my playing during the school year (I'm a music educator) on my Doug setup (XT 105, XT J, J8). Also, Doug just designed the new XT J cups. Are you playing on an LT J? The XT series is more open and is designed in part for euphonium players. Hope this helps,
