Bore = the inside diameter of the removable slides. You can measure this with a good dial calipers. In the U.S. we generally measure by thousandths of an inch.
"The Elkhart" may be Buescher or Martin, which means that finding a piston may not be a good prospect. There is a slim chance that it is a Conn, which would mean that finding a piston would be easier.
The bore size of most all Conn sousaphones is .734"
Post a picture, and we (the tubenet community collectively) can identify the make.
