They are a phtographer's representation/interpretation of the original image seen by the naked eye. Procedures can vary in the dark room to display the image as the photographer wants it to be seen,as well. That's nothing new to photogs. Photography can certainly be described as an art. It's up to the photographer/artist to "do something" with the original image, or not. Make it his/her own. Different photographers may "see" the image in different ways, but everybody recognizes the image and what it represents, despite individual interpretations that may be placed upon it. Hmm, sounds like another art form I know of... taking what you have before you and creating something. Interpretation can vary from artist to artist, and there can be slight changes, but everybody recognizes it... (OOPS! I forgot, we're not supposed to speculate, Sorry)
