I'm entering the University of Michigan as a freshman tuba performance major in, let's see, two days. During my search for a great tuba studio/professor, I got lessons from Charles Villarubia (Boston University, Boston Conservatory, New England Conservatory) and Fritz Kaenzig (University of Michigan). They were both amazingly helpful, caring, and energetic, not to mention amazing musicians. You've got a lot of time to decide since you're in tenth grade, so you should definitely do your own research -- ask other tubists, listen to recordings, and of course get lessons or at least email with professors you're interested in. There are a lot of great teachers out there, but I thought I'd just mention Villarubia and Kaenzig. Good luck!
