Do you live in an urban area? The first thing that tarnishes silver is sulfur in the air usually in the form of sulfides. Air-borne sulfides are the product of burning some grades of diesel or coal, also the product of decaying animal wastes (to put it delicately).

Keeping your instrument in its case with some 3M tarni-strips will keep it looking bright longer. Those 3M strips act as sacrificial accumulators of air-borne sulfides, so must be placed in a place where free air doesn't circulate or they'll get used up in no time.

Or you can move somewhere where there's less air pollution.
