I've never tried the 3050, but Tom B's comments about it don't surprise me. I found the Willson 5-valve Eb to be possibly the most ergonomically uncomfortable tuba that I've ever played. Still, that could be corrected by simply repositioning the leadpipe, and relocating the 5th valve trigger farther forward (an extention, possibly?). I also didn't like where it's first valve tuning slide was positioned. I'm sure the 3050 is a great horn, but you'd well advised to try it out first. I've heard several S.F. Bay Area tubaists play on PT-6's, and I've always been very impressed by the eveness of the sound from one register to the next. They sound very smooth and "in tune" to my tin ears. My guess (and this is only a guess) is that the Willson's could be more consitant than the PT's. If you ever get the chance to try out the Gronitz PCM, do!
