I have played the G-50 as a CC and a BBb many times. It is better as a CC but probably better than most BBb's on the market. Going through the fifth valve and with the extra tubing, it is a bit stuffier on the BBb side. A disadvantage of the BBb side is having to pull the slides upto 3". I do this on the top slides (3 and 4) so they do not hang below the horn.
One day I was playing an outdoor orchestra concert and during halftime the bass trombonist gave me a line about how he thinks CC tuba sounds better than BBb. To prove a point, I switched the horn from CC and played the second haff on BBb. At the end asked him if there was a difference. He said none. Then I told him what I had done. Needless to say, he changed his opinion.
