I don't get it. To call these French orchestral parts "tuba" parts is clearly a
mistranslation. What the French call a tuba is what we English speakers call a C euphonium (or tenor tuba). To play these parts on a Bb euphonium certainly seems to be quite reasonable, and such instruments are readily available. But to use a bass tuba, or worse yet a contrabass tuba, which are quite far from their good resonances up so high, and sound like they are, is not good music making. Is this some sort of bass tubists' guild thing, grabbing instrumental territory? What's next, tubists seriously playing up in the flugelhorn range, just because a few can?
