I've played both the Conn 20J and 20K in high school and I could actually get more sound out of the 20K, which, as you can imagine, was really really a lot of sound. The only thing that made it difficult was that I had to have so much air going through that horn to keep the sound pumping. The 20K seemed to project more, maybe it was just the afterglow effect, but I don't think it had the same broad, fill the room kind of sound as the 20J, which is weird, because the bells were just about identical, so the sound should have the same sort of quality. I loved both horns, but from what I've played, the 20K could blow away the 20J, just not with the same sweet tone, which makes the 20J one of my favorite tubas in the world.
