The hydrous stuff is sloppy and will turn your slides green quickly. I mix my anhydrous lanolin with a bit of STP oil treatment to thin it somewhat and use the combination sparingly. Doesn't seem to turn brass green as quickly as plain lanolin.
You can get anhydrous lanolin at any store specializing in supplies for home soapmakers. Five bucks'll get you a lifetime supply.
