Hi,
A few days back there was a small discussion of Wurlitzer Band Instruments.
Well I just bought one and it's pretty hip ! It came with a tiny Eb type
reciever, which I replaced, but I had to buy it-its an "EMENCEAPHONE"
It's 20" bell is a wide throughted as any you'll see and It sounds Great (for a beefer)
I particularly like it's short throw rotor valves. Their extraordinarily confy!
The question of who actually made this thing is still a mistery, but two things
about it bring me to believe it was the Amatti group (pre WWI). They both have to do with the hardware and the thinness of the metal. Today on "eBay Wach" I saw
Item #8976164189 which is proported to be a M.J.Kalashens tuba of New York.
It looks like My hardware exactly, except Mine (along with being REALLY HUGE)
dosn't have the american style half round protectors over the hole tuba. I love the sound of My horn although It would be better if I could play a Bb better ! I'v played CC for
ten years plus.
Anyway, other then on the non-standard Eb reciever that I cut off, which said in tiny
type "Checo Slovica" (two words)it has no markings except the fancy "Wurlitzer"
engraving that means nothing. SO
SO THE PURPOSE OF THIS NOTE IS TO ENLIST THE EFFORTS OF OUR GROUP HISTORIANS
TO CHECK OUT MY THEORY THAT THIS TUBA AND IT'S COUSIN ON EBAY ARE IN FACK THE WORK OF THE NOTORIOUS AMATTI GROUP.
Thanks all,
Brian "good gigs" Kane
