Although both Boosey & Hawkes and Besson tubas are essentially identical and were made in the same factory, there is some speculation that the tubas marked Boosey and Hawkes are better then the ones marked Besson. The rumor says that the factory tested the horns prior to labeling them. The poorer horns were labels Besson, as Bessons were exported. The better horns were stenciled Boosey and Hawkes and were not sold abroad. How much truth there is t the rumor I don't know.
