The school where I teach has several Yamaha 321 (5 valve EE flat) tubas, and one Yamaha 381 (5 valve EE flat). To my mind, the 5th valve neatly solves the problem of low note intonation.
My questions are, why have Yamaha ceased production of the 381? How many were manufactured? Are many available 2nd hand?
