FWIW, a friend of mine in high school broke a euphonium by setting it on its bell.
Let me explain:
the horn had some structural defect which caused the weight of the horn to rest on the leadpipe, which eventually broke off. Other than that, a knockdown is just about the only way I've seen a tuba damaged significantly by resting it on its bell.
